reX

this is reX.  I have mentioned him before.  reX lives in San Francisco.  He was on his way to the shower when he passed in front of his camera and I saved this picture.  He looks sad, or maybe weary.  One of reX's cats, epsilon, died last week.  She was fourteen.

reX is beautiful.  He has nice hair which he bleaches now and then, and he has a nice body which he thinks is too skinny.  He has pierced nipples and a cool tattoo, and he just quit smoking.  reX has a sweet personality and a very kind heart.  reX has his own talk show, and it bothers me that so many people know reX.  This is because he is precious and I want to put him in a jar and keep him for myself.  I am that way because of fear.

reX has no use for fear.  He is too busy being and doing.  Fear is irrational, it makes us want to isolate and hide, and do less when we are capable of more.  Fear represses.  reX does not repress; himself or anyone else.  Fear is itself stupid, it is absent intelligence and it therefore is the way out for some of us, an evasion of pain and an escape route out of being

being is intelligent, cognizant, aware and alert; fear is dumb, numb, unconscious, beautiful siddhartha disoriented, lethargic, stuporous, unaware and incoherent.  The basic difference between being and fear—or between reX and me—is feeling.  Not tactile feeling, but a higher sensibility, even above emotional feeling, acutely sensitive to vast subtlety, bordering on spiritual but completely a possession of the brain.  reX is present to that kind of feeling; it is what makes him beautiful.  And that fascinates me because I want that connection to reality for myself.  I think I had it once, and I want it back.
