creeping through another flu-day, sleeping lots and not getting excited at all. :< Even just eating makes me sweat, but I have managed to keep the symptoms pretty minimal. All that strenuous biological activity going on in my body is at least an excuse for my laziness, but it is a real accomplishment, too. We get seduced into thinking infection is rare and dangerous, thus solidifying our dependence on the medical/pharmaceutical industry. The government pays millions every year for vaccines of dubious value, and we buy medicines which treat only our symptoms, making us feel well enough to get out of bed when what we need is to stay in bed.
Maintaining barriers between ourselves and the world of infectious pathogens does not keep us healthy; our health is largely the result of immersion in that world. We are continuously infected. As humans we have an immune system that embraces infection (figuratively and literally), and consumes it. Our body is exposed to new pathogens and updates its immunities continuously; our body is constantly learning how to identify new bugs and fight them off. If I fail to support those strenuous microscopic efforts within my body, then infection proliferates, and I get sick, have symptoms, and buy lots of medicine.
so, I am taking it easy for a few days, letting most of the physical demands of my world go unanswered except for the demands of my body. That's how I'm dealing with this particular flu. It's better than past methods of dealing with the flu; ignoring sentinel symptoms, trying to maintain my normal level of exertion despite exhaustion, and ending up on the floor, sick as a dog.
Take care of yourself.
